The Plot Twist (Or: Why I Lied to Myself About Big Bikes)
Remember when I wrote that whole post about hanging up the big-bike spurs, packing it in, and finding peace? Yeah, about that...
If there is one universal truth every rider learns eventually, it is that you can try to rationalize yourself out of the motorcycle obsession, but the itch always comes back. After stepping away from the heavy, torquey machines and parting ways with my mini-moto projects due to time and electrical gremlins, I honestly thought that chapter of my life was neatly closed.
Enter the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 in Apex Black.
It turns out I didn’t necessarily want out of the big bike game; I just needed the right kind of machine at the given circumstances ;-). The Guerrilla threads that impossible needle. It’s got that real displacement and a healthy punch of mid-range torque that a scooter or a mini-moto just can't touch when you want a proper ride, but it isn't an impractical, heavy-slung monster that feels like a chore to pilot in the real world, plus the dealership is just quite near in my area that helps it become more practical.
Right now, it’s sitting quietly in the garage with barely 81 kilometers on the clock. Because work schedules and daily life are demanding, it spends a lot of time just resting under the roof, waiting. But there is a weird, quiet magic in that—just looking over the Apex Black finish late at night, knowing that a proper, punchy machine is waiting there for the next open window.
I still am thinking about the minimoto these days missing my old Monkey and trying to think about the CFMoto Papio XO-2 Trail. >.<
The big-bike journey didn't end. I just understood something about myself... I evolved.
